DESCRIPTION:
The Thinkin’ Like Lincoln Project is in the nick of time for Lincoln’s Bicentennial Commemoration. The federally appointed 15-member commission, called The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (ALBC), is abuzz with plans to commemorate the 200th birthday of our 16th president. From minting a new Lincoln Penny to the Award winning actor Sam Waterston narrating the Gettysburg Address, they are busy as can be.
How is your school seizing this teachable time? Lincoln’s life lessons are ripe for character education. Integrate your academics with character education in one fell swoop!
GOAL:
To focus on how Lincoln’s thoughts, words, and actions have left their imprint on our country and its citizens. Born nearly 200 years ago, Lincoln’s life and legacy reveal a man who was a mixture of “steel and velvet ... hard as rock and soft as drifting fog” (Carl Sandburg, 1959).
This performance relays these Lincoln-laden messages by enacting child-friendly stories, integrating relevant music and poetry, and engaging audience participation. Everyone will leave “thinkin’ like Lincoln!”
