HARMONY HEARTH
DESCRIPTION:
Whisk your students away on a voyage into the past, where they discover the holiday’s history, heroes, and heroines. Engage them in life lessons, such as one person can make a difference (e.g., 19th Century’s Sarah Josepha Hale). Learn why and when Abe Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday. Let the children hear Thanksgiving’s unofficial anthem played live on a fiddle and enjoy singing along. Send each child home with an “Attitude of Gratitude.”
GOAL:
To programmatically integrate Social Studies with Character Education. Students experience and partake in “living history.” They glean lessons from our five-centuries-old past to apply to their lives today.
PROGRAM INTEGRATES:
Social Studies / U.S. History Character Education
