Thanksgiving / Givingthanks:  Celebrating an Attitude of Gratitude. This upbeat, joyful family Thanksgiving program will take base on three military bases in the Greater Washington, DC area. These live performances--supported by Raytheon, BAE Systems, Reach Out and Read, The American Red Cross, and the Association for the United States Army Family Programs--will embrace our nation’s Thanksgiving history through the five centuries. (For example: did you know that Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday in the middle of the Civil War?)  It is topped off with American music, as the author rosins up her bow. Operation Thanksgiving Eagle (OTE) is a most exciting project, involving the not-for-profit and corporate worlds to do right by our children of the military. OTE is growing at a rapid pace: Launched in 2008, we deliver the timeless Thanksgiving book (see above) to children of the military all over the globe, to thank them for their daily sacrifices on behalf of our freedom. In partnership with the Association of the United States Army Family Programs, Raytheon underwrote the highly successful 2008 launch. More history can be seen by clicking here for a QuickTime movie presentation. Given its unprecedented response, BAE Systems joined forces with Raytheon for 2009. In 2009, we’ve extended our reach of thanks to our Air Force and Navy. We’ve forged new relationships and partnerships. We’ve planned live family Thanksgiving events directly on military bases (see below for more of a description of the military program), overflowing with American history, music, joy, meaningful fun, and topped off with a thunderous thank you! Velvet & Steel:  Thinkin’ Like Lincoln. This exciting project was created as part of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commemoration, but remains as timeless as Lincoln’s moral courage. Brain Power!  Celebrating Learning Differences.  Guess what?  Individuals have different learning styles and, notwithstanding some controversy, multiple intelligences. Brain research is burgeoning and incredibly exciting.  Let’s share some child-friendly neurosciences with your students while we celebrate learning differences!  We guarantee students (and adults) will samba dance their way out of the assembly as they chant and say in sign language:  “Go Brain Power!  Viva a   diferenca!”  [Portuguese for “celebrate differences!”]. BRAIN_POWER_PROJECT.html
The Gift of Writing Project.
