HARMONY HEARTH
DESCRIPTION:
Celebrate with your students as they internalize this program’s five key objectives: 1) to provide students and educators with child-friendly neurosciences; e.g, key functions of the brain’s cerebral hemispheres, the spinal cord, and neurons;
2) to assert that learning differences and physical disabilities need not be barriers to success;
3) to present a diverse line-up of role models/great contributors to society who prove this point;
4) to encourage self-awareness about how we each learn best; and 5) to have meaningful fun along the way!
GOAL:
The goal of Brain Power! is to celebrate learning differences while highlighting that we all face a diversity of challenges. This is es- pecially critical in schools mainstreaming students. Learn the key functions of the brain’s cerebral hemispheres. “Meet” an impressive and diverse line-up of famous contributors to society with learning differences and/or physical challenges (e.g., Walt Disney, Whoopi Goldberg, Helen Keller, Beethoven, and Picasso). Integrate science (the neurosciences) with multicultural biographies, literature, art, music, drama, sign language, and kinestheses (physical movement). Hear students cheer: “Go Brain Power--Viva a diferença!” (Celebrate differences!)
PROGRAM INTEGRATES:
* Science (neurosciences) * Drama
